About

My names, Dan Smyth, I’m from York in England. Been writing screenplays for a few years now, still working on getting anything out there though. I love film in general, if it’s a good film I’ll watch it, and this kinda transcended into my writing. I don’t really write to a specific genre right now, just what gets me going. I have a few shorts, a Sci Fi TV series with the pilot written, one finished thriller feature and a political revolution two parter on the way. Let me know if you want to know more.

I went to Northumbria Uni and got a degree in Multimedia Design. More of a handyman course in interactive design and media, including web design, animation, information kiosk interface, album artwork, promotional campaigns, Iphone and smart phone application for all of the above. We also did radio, music editing, and most importantly for me film. Including an extreme sports video in second year – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy9BNBXRHCI and then I went on to make my own interactive short film in my final year. You can see the sections of it on my youtube channel, and my website tatefold.co.uk.

I’m now in the midst of writing when I can, and working with an awesome production company Safehouse Pictures UK, http://www.wix.com/damianmorter/safehousepicturesuk. We’ve working with basically no budget right now, but we’ve got an awesome zombie horror trilogy on the way with a twist to create a feature that could really bring something new into the zombie genre. I began working with them in August this year as a runner on ‘Dead Inside’ the first of the zombie trio. On set I got the chance to take o the role of Script Supervisor and Continuity, and had the same responsibility on ‘Dying Breed’.

Right now, writing and breaking into the film industry is what’s really important, I know I can make a contribution. I try to use every day of life to influence my creativity, every experience is new and can give you new perspective when you least expect it. Because of this I write on the go a lot, I’m rarely without my mac or my note pad (I mean an actual note pad, not a small laptop. Old school right..). Anyway hope you enjoy the ramblings, maybe even find them insightful at times.
